Disposing of EPS (commonly known as Styrofoam) is expensive, even as waste, due to its low density, which increases the cost of waste compacting and transportation. However, the Finnish company EPS International Oy has developed a patented method, an extruder, that compresses, for example, 23 EPS fish boxes into a compact briquette measuring only 20 x 40 cm and weighing up to 10 kg. This technology enables cost-effective transportation of the briquettes to recycling facilities, which collect them at their own expense and pay for the material.

The solution offers significant savings for waste owners, as waste costs are substantially reduced with the extruder. In addition, the financial compensation received for the material can be considerable when recycling facilities accept the briquettes.
